Clinical Observation of 18 Unstable Fractures of the Pelvis

Abstract
From 73 cases of pelvic bone fractures -diagnosed at our department from January, 1967 to November, 1973, 18 unstable? forms were selected, and clinical analyses of the type of injuries, the causative mechanical force, and associated injuries and complications were carried out,
1. In more than a half of all (55.5%), traffic accident were the cause, falling (27.5%) and coal mine accident (11. 1%) being next in order of frequency.
2. Male was afflicted about 2 times than female and most of them were in their 4th decade.
3. Besides the conventional 6 types of fracture (straddle, vertical shear, pelvic dislocation, lateral compression, bucket-handle, total disruption), the author added the combined type of injury, which contributed considerably for the better understanding of mechanism of injury..
4. The commonest of all complications were paralytic ileus and fractures of ones adjacent to the pelvis.
